Welcome to the Pompton Lakes Volunteer Fire Department Website!

Jason Ekkers, Chief   -  Dennis Dakake, Assistant Chief

Pompton Lakes is a community of about 11,000 people, located in northern Passaic County, NJ.  Our town has three rivers and two lakes. Pompton Lakes is a close knit community with a substantial historical presence in the area. Pompton Lakes has always been blessed with volunteers - in emergency services, sports, civic activities, and municipal boards.

As such it should be no surprise that we are an all volunteer fire department consisting of about 62 members.  The Department was formed in 1895, and had 10 original members.  It has since grown to the department that  you see here.  We are very proud of  the service we offer and strive to be the best we can be.  We train hard so we can be prepared for any emergency.

Firefighter Raymond Cahill

On May 14, 1974, Firefighter Raymond Cahill lost his life in the line of duty while fighting a commercial building basement fire in Pompton Lakes.  Each year on May 14th, PLFD celebrates his life and sacrifice at his gravesite in Pompton Lakes. This year is the 50th anniversary of that fateful day.

In addition to the gravesite visit, we are recognizing his sacrifice with a ceremony at the firehouse at 11AM on Sunday, May 19, 2024. His son Ray and daughter Ruth will join  us, along with members of the public and dignitaries.  You are welcome to join us as we recognize and honor one of our own.
