Pompton Lakes is one of the first Fire Departments to use the FIT5 fire suppression device.
In October 2008, only two days after receiving training on the use of a FIT5, the Pompton Lakes Fire Department was called out to a working house fire. Upon arrival, the first engine determined that the newly acquired FIT5 unit would be helpful in stopping the fire. The FIT5 was deployed into a second floor bedroom and immediately began releasing potassium carbonate to subdue the flames and allow the firemen to extinguish the remaining burning areas.

Pompton Lakes Fire Department stages Ice Rescue Drill
Pompton Lakes is surrounded by water. With three rivers and two lakes, there are always dangers of drowning, and in the winter, of falling into a frozen water body. The fire department staged an ice rescue drill this past winter to practice their ice rescue techniques. The fire department was aided by the Pompton Lakes First Aid Squad.
